Extricated Driver Airlifted After Crash

PHELAN-(VVNG.com):  One person was trapped after a major damage traffic collision at the Duncan and Johnson Road intersection on Monday night. Firefighters were dispatched to the report of a two-vehicle traffic collision with one vehicle overturned at 9:34 p.m.

San Bernardino County officials said that Medic 10 being the first on scene minutes after the report located the traffic collision with the one person still trapped in the small pickup truck. The response consisted of 2 paramedic engine companies, 1 heavy rescue unit, 1 paramedic ambulance and one battalion chief.

Rescue 40 along with Medic Engine 10 worked for approximately 40 minutes to free the driver from the wreckage. When the extrication was complete County Fire paramedics treated the patient preparing him to be airlifted to Arrowhead Medical Center for the treatment of major injuries.

The collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Fire Department officials said the patient was seatbelted at the time of the collision, which without a doubt saved him from more serious injuries.
