VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — After operating as the worlds most iconic toy retailer for 70 years, Toys “R” Us is closing its doors.
The struggling retailer, headquartered in Wayne, New Jersey confirmed Wednesday afternoon, that it will sell or close down its nearly 800 stores in the United States.
According to various news sources, employees have been notified and the closure will impact up to 33,000 jobs over the coming months including Babies R Us stores.
The news comes nearly 6-months after the retailer filed for bankruptcy in September of 2017, as it struggled to pay down nearly $b billion in debt.
Big-box retailers like Toys “R” Us have struggled to operate brick and mortar businesses with competitors like Amazon.com who have dominated in online sales for nearly a decade.
For many years Victorville has been home to Toys “R” Us, currently located at 12450 Amargosa Road. Victor Valley News called the store to inquire about a possible closing date, however, management said they were unable to comment and provided a corporate phone number to call.
