MOUNTAIN PASS: (VVNG.com)- A multi-vehicle crash on the 15 freeway claimed the life of a 79-year-old man and a 2-month-old baby New Years Day.
The collision was reported Sunday, January 1, 2017, at 4:45 a.m. on the northbound I-15 freeway near mile marker 167, north of Cima Road.
An adult male was traveling northbound in the no. 2 lane, in a 2007 Infinity G35, in dense fog when he collided into the rear of a 2015 Nissan Altima being driven by Abraham Jones with his four passengers. The G35 came to rest in the median and the Altima came to rest, disabled, in the northbound no. 1 lane.
Abraham Jones got out of the Nissan and while standing behind it, he and the Nissan were struck again by a 2006 Toyota Corolla.
Jones succumbed to his injuries as a result of this collision.
Additionally, the middle rear passenger of the Altima, Timol Jenkins Jr., a 2-month-old baby boy, also sustained fatal injuries. Both Jones and Jenkins were residents of Las Vegas NV.
The three remaining passengers of the Altima were taken by ground to St. Rose in Henderson then transferred to UMC Las Vegas with major injuries.
Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in either of these collisions. The Barstow Office of the California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
