Elderly couple assaulted during home invasion robbery in Apple Valley

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) An elderly couple were assaulted during a home invasion robbery inside their Apple Valley home, officials said.

It happened on September 29th at 12:28 a.m., at a residence in the 21000 block of State Highway 18 when deputies responded to a report of a residential burglary in progress.

Sheriff’s officials said the elderly man woke up to the sound of breaking glass and walked up to check out the noise.

He saw a black male, later identified as Albert Johnson, 46, of Apple Valley, walking past the broken window, sheriff’s officials said.

The victim’s wife called 911 for help, and that’s when Johnson forced his way into the residence and attacked the elderly couple, causing ‘significant injuries’ to both victims.

“When Deputy Walker arrived on scene the suspect saw the lights from the patrol car and stopped his attack of the victims and barricaded himself in a bedroom,” officials said.

Deputies entered the residence and forced entry into the bedroom where the suspect was hiding. After a brief struggle, the suspect was arrested without further incident.

The two victims were transported to St. Mary Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Albert Johnson was booked into High Desert Detention Center and is being held without bail.
