Eight Injured In Barstow Rollover Traffic Collision

BARSTOW-(VVNG.com): At about 5:26 p.m. on Saturday, January 2nd, the California Highway Patrol and Medical personnel responded the area of state route 247 (Barstow Road) and Charro Road for a single-vehicle rollover. According to CHP incident logs, the reporting party said that a blue van or SUV was overturned and several injured people were lying on the roadway.

It was initially reported that there were five injured people, which included three juveniles. The reporting party told dispatchers that he was driving the injured occupants in his private vehicle in order to meet with the ambulance approximately 2 miles away at the Slash X Cafe located on the 28000 block of Barstow Road in the city of Barstow.

Per scanner traffic two of the occupants of the vehicle were suffering from head injuries, one from a hand injury and the others with undisclosed injuries. CHP officials said that upon arrival they found a van in the roadway with debris in all lanes. At that time it was determined that there were a total of eight patients, four of whom required to be transported via air ambulances. The landing zone for the two air ambulances was established at the scene.

Medical personnel as of 6:05 p.m., have requested that two juveniles go together in one air ambulance. At this time it is unknown if any additional air ambulances will be required.

According to scanner reports, one air ambulance will be transporting the patient(s) to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and the second air ambulance will be transporting patient(s) to Loma Linda University Medical Center. All other patients will be treated at Barstow Community Hospital. No other injuries were reported as a result of this collision.

CHP logs indicate that a blue SUV was towed away and the roadway was cleared just after 6:00 p.m. However, northbound and southbound state route 247 (Barstow Road) is expected to remain closed until about 7:00 p.m. in order to allow air ambulances to land at the scene.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. More information will be updated as it becomes available.
