“Duel in the Desert” Charity Game Set for Sept. 11

ADELANTO, Calif:(VVNG.com)- There will be a duel in the desert as teams led by San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon and Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman Robert Lovingood square off in a charity softball game before the start of the High Desert Mavericks’ playoff game on Sunday, Sept. 11.

On the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, the event will honor the United States military in addition to First Responders and volunteers who worked on the recent Pilot and Blue Cut fires.

“It’s a chance to enjoy the great American pastime and to honor some great Americans,” Supervisor Lovingood said. “This is a tangible way local residents can say ‘thank you’ to our outstanding First Responders, support the Sheriff’s local youth programs and have a little fun.”

Three dollars from every ticket sold will go to High Desert Police Activities Leagues in support of youth programs.

“I can’t think of a better way to honor the past and present American heroes,” Sheriff McMahon said, “We are so grateful to our residents for their continued support.”

Gates open at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, with the “Duel in the Desert” celebrity game at 4 p.m. The Mavericks playoff game begins at 5:05 p.m.

Business and sponsorship packages are available, starting at $90. Donated tickets will be given to First Responders.

Individual tickets are $6. To purchase tickets or for information, call the High Desert Mavericks at (760) 246-6287, click on www.HDMavs.com or visit the Mav’s box office, 12000 Stadium Way, Adelanto.
