Driver ejected, killed after crashing into parked semi in Victorville

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) A young man was killed Saturday night after he crashed his vehicle into a parked tractor-trailer.

It happened at about 10:05 p.m., in the 13200 block of Cantina Drive near the intersection of Luna Road and Highway 395 in the city of Victorville.

Witnesses said a Honda sedan was traveling at a high-rate of speed northbound on Cantina Drive when for reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control, sideswiped a vehicle and slammed into the front of a parked tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Honda, described as a male about 20 years of age was ejected from his vehicle.

Terra Porteous-Nelson was driving home as the crash occurred and narrowly avoided being struck by the Honda. As Terra looked back, she could see the wreck and immediately turned around to go back and help. Terra found the young man who had been ejected lying on the ground and performed CPR until first responders arrived.

Despite life-saving measures, San Bernardino County Firefighters pronounced the victim deceased at 10:16 p.m., scanner traffic reported.

At this time it’s unknown if any other injuries were reported as a result of the violent crash.

The Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation and will determine the cause of the collision.

Sheriff’s officials are expected to announce additional information later today. Please check back for updates.

(Note: The victim was initially described by the witness as a Black male. However, it has been determined the victim was, in fact, a Hispanic male. The victim was ejected from the vehicle and thrown into the desert where he was covered with dirt. The witness who initiated the CPR continues to struggle with the tragic incident as she is heartbroken for the victim’s family.)
