NEWBERRY SPRINGS, Calif. (VVNG.com) – The San Bernardino Coroner’s Department identified the young woman killed along the 15 freeway Saturday, as Breanna Kelly, 21, a resident of Las Vegas.
The deadly multi-vehicle crash happened at on Saturday, January 6, 2018, along the northbound I-15 freeway near mile marker 98.5, south of Alvord Mountain Road in New Berry Springs.
Kelly was the driver of a Chevrolet Cobalt occupied by two passengers. At about 5:40 a.m. pm, Kelly’s vehicle collided into the rear of an unknown car causing property damage only and her vehicle to become disabled in the no. 1 lane, stated a California Highway Patrol news release.
According to the news release, Kelly and her two passengers exited the vehicle and walked to the right shoulder of the northbound I-15 to use a call box.
“At this time, a Toyota Sienna, rapidly approached the rear of the disabled Chevrolet, collided into the rear of the Chevrolet, and began to overturn. The driver of a Ford F-150 traveling behind the Toyota took evasive action to avoid colliding into the overturning Toyota and swerved to the right shoulder of the freeway,” stated the release.
The truck subsequently collided into the call box, striking Breanna Kelly, who was using the phone. A female passenger of the Toyota was not wearing her seatbelt and was subsequently ejected, officials said.
Kelly suffered fatal injuries and the ejected passenger of the Toyota was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital with major injuries.
