Child critically injured in Apple Valley car accident

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) A child was airlifted to a trauma center after being extricated from the backseat of a vehicle following a traffic accident.

It happened Friday at about 5:00 p.m. in the 22000 block of Bear Valley Road near the intersection of Central Road.

Deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Department and emergency personnel responded to the scene and located a multi-vehicle crash.

A child was found trapped in one of the vehicles while still in their car seat and was said to be breathing but unresponsive.

The child was first transported to Apple Valley High School to be transferred to the Mercy Air Ambulance however, paramedics were “unable to establish an air way” and so the child was transported by ground to Desert Valley Medical Center for the procedure. Once the air way was established the child was taken to the Mercy Air ambulance and transported to Loma Linda Medical Center.

Bear Valley Road was closed in both directions for the accident investigation. No further information on the child’s condition has been released at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Information will be updated as it is received.
