VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) A carjacking suspect led San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Deputies on a wild chase in Victorville.
On Friday, March 31, 2017, Victorville deputies took a report involving a gray Cadillac that was taken during a carjacking. At about 11:30 p.m. dispatch received a report that the vehicle was parked in front of a residence in the 13500 block of Borego Road in Victorville.
The reporting party told dispatchers a male exited the vehicle and was seen stumbling around. The suspect got back into the car and left the location.
Moments later, A deputy patrolling the area spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on Dos Palmas approaching Amethyst Road.
The deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop on the Cadillac. However, the driver failed to yield and continued westbound on Palmdale Road initiating the pursuit.
From Palmdale Road, the suspect made a right and continued northbound onto US Highway 395. Deputies deployed a spike strip at Mojave Drive and 395. The vehicle struck the spike strip and caused all four of the tires to flatten.
The pursuit continued for several miles eastbound on Mojave Drive with the tires sparking. From 7th Street, the driver made his way back onto westbound Palmdale Road where the pursuit eventually terminated west of Cahuenga Road, in front of the San Bernardino County Employment Building.
Heavy smoke began billowing from the vehicle’s hood as the pursuit ended, prompting the San Bernardino County Department personnel to cut the hood off with saw to smother any possible fire.
Deputies swarmed the car and successfully took the suspect into custody. The man was suspected of being under the influence of a drug and was placed on a gurney and transported by AMR to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
No other injuries or collisions were reported as a result of the pursuit.
