Carjacking Suspect Caught Thanks to Publics Help

HESPERIA: On Monday at about 3 p.m., Hesperia Deputies responded to an unknown problem in the area of Hesperia Road and Walnut Street. Sheriff’s Dispatch received multiple reports of a female on the ground with a male on top punching her.

Upon arrival Deputy Antonio Higuera located the female victim who said the suspect, identified as Calvin Hughes, had fled in her vehicle. The unidentified victim said she and Hughes were previously in a relationship but had been separated for almost a year. The victim had driven Hughes to Hesperia when he began assaulting her in the vehicle, forcing her to stop and pulled her out of the driver’s seat. While speaking to the victim, Deputy Higuera observed the suspect driving the victim’s vehicle northbound on Hesperia Road. Hughes was apprehended a short distance away and taken into custody without incident. Deputies discovered suspect Calvin Tyrell Hughes was on parole for PC290(g)(2), failure to register by person convicted of felony sex offense. He was arrested and booked at Victor Valley Jail for PC215(a), carjacking and PC273.5(a)inflict corporal injury. Hughes is being held on $250,000 bail and also a no bail violation of parole.

The female victim’s injuries were non-life threatening. Her vehicle was recovered and returned undamaged.
