Cajon Blvd closed due to fatal traffic collision investigation

CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) – Officers with the California Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal traffic collision that left at least one person dead Friday.

It happened at 3:47 pm, when motorists reported a traffic collision involving two vehicles along Old Cajon Blvd., also known as Route 66, which travels along the I-15 freeway.

According to CHP incident logs, a black SUV and a white sedan collided on the curvy part of the roadway causing one vehicle to overturn and another to go down an embankment. Following the crash, the black vehicle caught on fire and bystanders helped extinguish the fire and pull a baby from the vehicle.

The CHP incident logs have changed the category of this incident as a ‘fatality’. Additional information on patient information or injuries is not currently available.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and stay on the I-15 freeway while officials investigate the scene.

The Cleghorn offramp is closed for an unknown duration, according to the logs. The closure is causing traffic on the southbound I-15 to back-up around Kenwood Blvd.

Information will be updated as it becomes available. Be sure to check back for updates.
