At this time the Blue Cut Fire is still 0% contained. With the number of evacuations, road closures, the air quality, and the concern we have for those affected, we will be closing our schools for the remainder of the week.
At this time, we are planning to reopen our schools on Monday, August 22. We will continue to post updates on our website and our Facebook page. We continue to thank our firefighters and emergency responders who have worked so hard to protect our community and those around us.

Riverside Preparatory School

Because we greatly value the safety of our students and staff, Riverside Preparatory School will remain closed for Thursday, August 18. Smoke from the Blue Cut Fire is expected to negatively affect air quality over the next 24 hours. Our thoughts are with the firefighters, and the families who are affected by the evacuations.

We are in contact with local officials, and will keep abreast of the situation. Please follow us on Facebook or Twitter, or visit us at for updates.

Victor Elementary School District

Victor Valley Union High School District

The Victor Valley Union High School District has announced that all school sites will remain closed Thursday, Aug. 18, due to air quality and transportation issues caused by the Bluecut Fire.

The closure affects Adelanto High School, Cobalt Institute of Math and Science, Goodwill Education Center, Hook Junior High School, Lakeview Leadership Academy, Silverado High School, University Preparatory School, Victor Valley High School, the district office and the Central Enrollment Center.

All staff members will have Thursday off, and district officials will continue to monitor the situation in the hopes of reopening on Friday.

The poor air quality that forced school closures Wednesday persisted throughout the day. In addition, the transportation issues caused by evacuations and the closure of Interstate 15 will create staffing problems at the school sites.

“Many of our teachers and other staff members live in the evacuation areas, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time,” VVUHSD Superintendent Dr. Ron Williams said.

The wildfire began Tuesday and forced the cancellation of outdoor activities at VVUHSD. Wednesday’s classes were canceled due to poor air quality. Wednesday night’s board of trustees meeting was also canceled. Check here, or for further updates.
