Barstow Residents Killed in Double Fatal Traffic Accident

BARSTOW, CA:(VVNG.com)– On Saturday, October 15, 2016, at approximately 11:20 P.M., the Barstow Police and Fire Dispatch Center received a call from a Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) employee who reported a vehicle versus train traffic accident on the train tracks below the Yucca Avenue overpass, within the City of Barstow.

Barstow Police officers and Barstow Fire Protection District personnel were dispatched to the scene where they located two male adults inside a 2009, Nissan, Pathfinder, deceased.

With evidence at the accident scene and the assistance of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner Division, the occupants of the vehicle were identified as Dupree Steele, a 39-year-old resident of Barstow and Ramund Woods, a 35-year-old resident of Barstow.

The investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle was traveling southbound on Yucca Avenue and for unknown reasons lost control of the vehicle, crossed over the northbound lane of Yucca Avenue, continued into the desert area just north of the east side of the railroad bridge overpass and off the dirt ledge landing on the railroad tracks at the bottom of a 35-foot cliff. After the vehicle came to rest on the railroad tracks a westbound train collided with the vehicle.
