Barstow Man Uses Vehicle to Deliberately Kill Another Man

BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) A Barstow man was arrested on murder charges after he deliberately hit and killed a man with his car, authorities said.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 9:52 p.m. CHP officers responded to the 25000 block of W. Main Street in Lenwood for reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian.

“Officers quickly determined this was an assault with a vehicle and summoned deputies from the Barstow Station to conduct the investigation,” stated a press release.

The suspect, later identified as Abelarado Reyes Jaramillo, 50, fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.

Larry Tortes, 35, a resident of Barstow was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment and on June 16, 2017 at 3:19 a.m. the victim was pronounced deceased.

Homicide Detectives were notified and began an investigation.

Detectives determined there was an argument, that escalated to a fight between Jaramillo and Tortes. Detectives believe Jaramillo deliberately hit Tortes with his vehicle and then left the area.

On June 16, 2017, the Specialized Enforcement Detail located Jaramillo in the Barstow area and took him into custody without incident.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available for release. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Homicide Detail, Detective Jonathan Woods at (909)387-3589.
