Barstow Man Found Shot in Driveway Dies; Suspect at Large

BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com)– A 36-year-old Barstow man identified as Jesus Augustine Romero was shot in the driveway of his home and despite life-saving measures, Romero succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced dead at Barstow Community Hospital.

On Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at approximately 7:50 PM, Barstow Police Department Dispatch Center received a call reporting a gunshot victim at a residence in the 1000 block of Glacier Drive.

Barstow Police Officers responded to the scene and located a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers rendered first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived. Barstow Fire District Paramedics responded to the scene and provided medical aid to the victim. The victim was transported to Barstow Community Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Barstow Police Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Detectives identified the victim as 36-year-old Barstow resident Jesus Augustine Romero. Detectives learned that an unknown male approached Romero and shot him in the driveway of his residence in the presence of his girlfriend of several years and his two children.

Detectives and Evidence Technicians processed the scene and collected evidence related to the shooting. Detectives also canvassed the neighborhood and located witnesses that observed portions of the shooting incident. A Deputy Coroner from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner Division also responded to the scene and assisted Barstow Police investigators.
