VICTORVILLE, CALIF – (VVNG.com)- A 19-year-old Apple Valley man has been arrested for robbery and attempted carjacking, authorities said.
On Tuesday, August 2, 2016, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to North Star Avenue in Victorville to a call of an attempted carjacking.
Police say the 17-year-old victim had met the suspect, Edmond D. Reliford, on Facebook and the two agreed to meet and spend time together. The victim picked the suspect up at a residence in Victorville.
Once in the car, he began to make inappropriate comments to her, making her uncomfortable. The victim decided to take him back to where she had picked him up. After turning the car around he grabbed the steering wheel, taking control of the car and telling her the car was his. Both the suspect and victim exited the car and the suspect took the keys from the victim. Deputies arrived at the scene and the suspect fled on foot. After a short pursuit through backyards and over fences, the suspect was detained.
The victim was uninjured. The suspect was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries he received as he ran through the yards and encountered some of the neighborhood dogs. He was later booked into the High Desert Detention Center.
Reliford is currently being held in lieu of a $125,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on August 4, 2016.
