Alleged Armed Suspect Barricaded Inside Hesperia Business

FINAL UPDATE : The barricaded subject was determined to be the business owner. It’s unclear why he was distraught. The owner of Early Birds Smoke Shop was taken into custody for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

UPDATE @ 8:50 pm – The suspect stepped out the back door of the business where he was detained. Authorities are now breaking down the scene.

HESPERIA, CA: (– Authorities have a local business surrounded after an alleged armed man barricaded himself inside.

Just before 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 6th officers responded to a Smoke Shop in the 17100 block of Main Street in Hesperia.

Per scanner traffic, the male is reported to be in his 50’s who somehow injured himself and requested medical assistance. When firefighters arrived, the male became combative and ran into a business where he barricaded himself.

According to initial unconfirmed reports, the man is believed to be armed with a gun and possibly a machete.

The barricaded subject has shut off all the lights to the business and authorities are making PA announcements. SWAT has also been requested to the scene.

All surrounding business have been evacuated and Main Street is closed in both directions between G Street and Jellico Street.
