ADELANTO, Calif. (news release) -— On Saturday February 17 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. the City of Adelanto, in coordination with AVCO Disposal Company, is hosting the first of three Free Dump days in 2018 for Adelanto residents to get rid of unwanted items—eliminating the need for a special trip to the landfill.
“We’ve had spring like weather for the past three weeks and hopefully people are already into the “spring cleaning mode,” said Adelanto Mayor Rich Kerr. “This is the perfect time for residents to save money by not having to make a trip to the landfill, and also help make Adelanto a cleaner community,” Kerr added.
The Free Dump Day is open to Adelanto residents who must provide proof of residence to participate. The only restricted item that residents cannot bring is hazardous waste. “They can bring mattresses, furniture, household trash, televisions, computer monitors, small tires (without the rims) paints, oil—just about anything that would find its way into a trash can, the landfill or worse…a field in Adelanto,” said Mayor Kerr.
“We encourage our residents and businesses to remember and observe the 3R’s: Reduce waste before it starts, Reuse items and materials as much as possible, and Recycle when you have reduced and reused,” said Roman De La Torre, Code Compliance Officer.
The last Dump Day held in October saw residents bring in just over 70 tons of trash and debris (not including the weight of 105 mattresses and 29 pallets of E-waste) to Adelanto Stadium.
“The City of Adelanto is committed to ensuring a safe and clean community for our residents and visitors to enjoy, but it’s a team effort between city staff, our residents and our businesses, ” said
