Adelanto Homeowner Faces Possible Charges for Shooting at Car Thiefs

ADELANTO-(VVNG.com): Shots were fired in the usually quiet neighborhood near High Ridge Street and High Point Court on Sunday, March 20, 2016.

At around 11:19 p.m. a Victor Valley station deputy relayed to dispatch that he heard shots fired, then a vehicle driving from the scene somewhere in the vicinity of Jonathan and Victor Streets.

Several minutes following the deputy report, a resident of the 11300 block of High Ridge Street in Adelanto called 911 to report that a silver 2012 Kia Forte was just stolen from his home and he fired shots at the vehicle as they left.

Through investigation, deputies learned that the victim heard something outside so he retrieved his pistol. When he walked outside he saw his vehicle being driven away from his home, so he ran after the vehicle and fired three shots at the fleeing vehicle. Authorities said that it is unknown if the vehicle was struck by the shots fired.

The victim was only able to describe the suspects as two males but was able to tell deputies that there was a second vehicle, possibly a red Mazda Miata or similar that was following the vehicle that may have been related.

This was the second time in just weeks that this Kia Forte was stolen, the last time being March 9, 2016, per scanner traffic. After that theft, the vehicle was located abandoned around six miles north of the Adelanto home.

The vehicle, license plate number is #6UYX485 and is still outstanding at this time. A criminal report was completed for negligent discharge of a firearm by the victim and will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
