POMONA: 24 people were arrested Saturday evening during a city wide gang enforcement operation in the City of Pomona. This was the sixth high visibility gang enforcement operation conducted in the past twelve months. These operations are typically a one day operation conducted by Pomona PD with the assistance of allied agencies such as; “The United States Marshal’s Service, The California Department of Corrections, The L.A. County Probation Department, The L.A County District Attorney’s Office and the San Gabriel Valley East AB109 Task Force”.
These officers all work together and saturate the streets of Pomona with a “Zero Tolerance” approach toward any and all criminal offenses involving gang members. The purpose of the operation is to keep constant pressure on gang members while developing additional intelligence related to unsolved gang crimes, arresting those found committing any new crimes and arresting suspects with outstanding warrants.
The operation also involved compliance checks of those individuals on Probation, Parole or AB109.
Three firearms, 23 grams of Methamphetamine and 23 grams of Marijuana were also seized.
Overall violent crimes were down by 20% in 2013 in part because of these types of high visibility gang enforcement operations which are organized by the dedicated members of the Pomona Gang Violence Suppression Unit. Pomona PD is truly grateful to all of those agencies that have assisted in helping to reduce violent crime in Pomona over the past year.
The Pomona Police Department continues to offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in any unsolved homicide. Witnesses who might have information related to any homicide are encouraged to contact Pomona Detectives at 909-620-2085. Witnesses may remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477) or We-Tip (1-800-782-7463).
