APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Tommie Buckner, 20, of Apple Valley was arrested Wednesday night after an armed robbery at a Food 4 Less.
At about 4:29 pm, Apple Valley deputies responded to the 20800 block of Bear Valley Road after a caller reported a subject who stole items and brandished a knife when store employees attempted to contact with him, officials said.
The suspect, later identified as Buckner, left the store with the stolen property and fled into a neighboring community where he stripped off his clothes and hid the stolen property, described a sheriff’s news release.
A detective witnesses a male matching the suspect description and attempted to make contact. “The suspect attacked and actively fought with the Detective before fleeing on foot,” officials said.
Buckner entered several businesses as he attempted to hide from authorities. He was spotted by detectives and after a brief foot pursuit down the middle of busy Bear Valley Road during rush-hour traffic, Buckner was taken into custody. Buckner was arrested and escorted safely from the street.
Buckner was not injured during the arrest and was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for Armed Robbery and Resisting Arrest by Force.
“The Detective received minor, non-life-threatening injuries,” officials said.
