CAJON PASS Calif. – The 20-30 vehicle pile-up in the Cajon Pass Wednesday morning was the result of a two-vehicle traffic collision, officials said.
On May 30, 2018, at approximately 10:42 A.M., two vehicles traveling southbound on Interstate 15 south of Oak Hills Road were involved in a traffic collision. Both the vehicles became disabled, blocking lanes of traffic.
A chain reaction of vehicle collisions began to occur and approximately 20-30 vehicles were involved in the pile up.
Heavy fog and reduced visibility in the area contributed to the pile-up, authorities said.
All lanes of southbound I-15 were shut down in order for emergency crews to assist the people involved. This created a large traffic back up into the High Desert.
Multiple parties were transported to local hospitals with minor to moderate non-life threatening injuries. All traffic lanes were re-opened at approximately 1:20 p.m.
These collisions are still under investigation, including the number of vehicles and persons involved.
Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the San Bernardino CHP Office at (909) 383-4247.
