VICTORVILLE, CALIF. (VVNG.com) One woman is dead and another woman is injured following a single-vehicle rollover crash that occurred early Friday morning.
The incident happened at around 1:15 a.m. on Mariposa Road near Cottonwood Avenue. When rescue personnel arrived on the scene, they located the vehicle 60-80 feet off the roadway on its roof in the dirt field with two women trapped inside.
The vehicle temporarily caught fire but was quickly put out.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel were able to successfully extricate the female driver of the vehicle, a black Pontiac G6, who was then airlifted to a trauma center for moderate injuries.
However, the female passenger was pronounced deceased on scene.
According to Victorville Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Hylin, the vehicle was traveling northbound on Mariposa Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and rolled.
The identity of the deceased female, who is believed to be in her late 20’s- early 30’s, has not been released at this time.
It’s unclear if alcohol or drugs may have contributed to this crash. The Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation.
